117 seniors make state scholars list
DECEMBER 8, 2008 -- Rockford Public Schools Superintendent Linda Hernandez is pleased to announce that 117 seniors from the city's four traditional public high schools have been named "2009 Illinois State Scholars."
The prestigious award is given annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores and class rank at the end of the junior year. In its 50-year history, more than 500,000 high school seniors have received the honor.
"All 117 of these students have worked very hard and have bright futures ahead of them," Mrs. Hernandez said. "The award is a positive reflection not only of the students' accomplishments but also the efforts of their teachers and families."
While no monetary assistance accompanies the designation, winners are encouraged to cite the award on applications for college admission and scholarships. This year's recipients also will be presented with a paid subscription to the online version of Encyclopedia Brittanica.
ISAC is the state's central provider of college aid. Students and parents can visit www.collegezone.com for information on financial assistance. |
