Lesson in self-promotion Students, principal record radio campaign to help recruit for ACE
MARCH 19, 2009 – Autumn Johnson, Vanessa Rodriguez and Richard Gartman wanted something different when they enrolled last year at the new Academic Career Education High School. They liked what they found, and now they’re preparing with their principal to record an advertising spot to recruit more students.
The recording session at 10 a.m. March 20 at Maverick Media, 2830 Sandy Hollow Road, provides the real-world work experience typical at ACE, where students spend four days in the classroom and Fridays in off-campus learning environments.
In the 60-second appeal, Johnson, Rodriguez and Gartman will make a case for the technical education, for-credit internships and dual college courses that supplement core academic studies at ACE. Students also will discuss advantages including the small, family atmosphere and 98-percent attendance rate. Principal Michael Cermak will lend his voice to the recording by inviting prospective students to attend one-hour information sessions at 6 p.m. April 6 and 16.

Students who graduate from ACE earn traditional and scholars diplomas. ACE currently offers technical education in health care, manufacturing, aviation and engineering. When classes dismiss in June, the program moves from Rock Valley College’s Stenstrom Center to the former Skyview Center on Rotary Road.
