The BLIG is designed to provide a frame of reference for teachers that specifies how the current district resources mesh with the components of balanced literacy. The Illinois Learning Standards and Illinois Assessment Framework objectives are embedded in the comprehension strategies, optional teaching points, and word work components. The purpose of the BLIG is NOT to create cookie cutter teachers but to guide teachers in their weekly planning for reading instruction.
