High School Social Studies Information 2009-2010 Beginning in the fall of 2009, entering freshmen are required to successfully complete three years of Social Studies for graduation. Grade 9 Either World Geography or World History (one year) Grade 11 United States History (one year) Grade 12 American Government (one semester) Grade 12 Economics (one semester) Students in the Academy Program at Auburn High School follow a slightly different configuration. Holt's World Geography Today Online Textbook Support Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, entering freshmen are required to successfully complete either World Geography or World History to graduate. In this course, students will study different regions and cultures of the world through global issues, such as population, energy resources, waste disposal and recycling, global economy, human rights, conflict and urbanization. Students will examine how humans adapt to their environments and how nations rely on each other, using connections to current events and how technology is used in geography. |

Glencoe's World History Online Textbook Support Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, entering freshmen are required to successfully complete either World Geography or World History to graduate. In this survey of world history, the student will explore the cultures, people, events, and institutions from ancient to modern times. Both the western and nonwestern traditions will be studied. Geographic skills will be reinforced. A study of world history is recommended by many colleges. |

First semester of U.S. History is an intensive study of the United States from the Reconstruction period to the 1920s with generous references to events prior to the 1870s. The yellow book is used in both Honors and Regular Economics classes. Economics is a study of wealth, in relationship to people, business, and governments. Emphasis is placed on contemporary American and world problems, their causes and solutions, with special emphasis on consumer and career problems. |
