Essential Questions, Illinois Learning Standards, Social Studies content and skills are included, as well as reading strategies and skills. They contain a "menu" of options for classroom activities, and much more! Additionally, Curriculum Maps have been created during June 2009. Each offers month-by-month pacing to ensure instruction. Essential Questions and Big Ideas are included, as well as Power Standards to aid in evaluation for the Standards-Based Report Cards. Teachers are strongly encouraged to incorporate Social Studies into the Literacy Block, as well as adding Social Studies content to the instructional day. The Core Lessons are those that should be taught. Extend Lessons are designed for enrichment or contain supplemental materials that can be used outside of Social Studies time. When Social Studies is taught within the Reading Block, students will make powerful connections to Reading, Writing, and the content area of Social Studies.
