| | Screening is a learning checkup or developmental assessment for children ages birth to five years. The screening process begins by parent request and/or referral by doctors and community agencies. Screening is required for entry into preschool classes.
Some children, ages three to five years, may need additional assessment to determine appropriate services. |

| | Children grow and learn through the same developmental stages. Some children grow at different rates and in unique ways. Assessment in a play setting looks at the child's development to determine the best program. Evaluation looks at the child's development in the areas of: thinking physical/motor development self-help speech and language personal-social development |

| | | Evaluation of the child's learning and development is provided by a Rockford Early Childhood Program Special Services team. The team consists of specialists including family support staff, early childhood teacher, psychologist, speech/language pathologist, nurse, vision, and physical impairments. Physical and occupational therapy evaluation services are also available.
Screening and evaluation services are available free of charge. For children ages birth to 3 years, Child and Family Connections will assist the family in evaluations and assessments. Child and Family Connections can be reached at (815) 654-6170. |
