Creative & Performing Arts (K-8)
The CAPA (Creative & Performing Arts) program at Ellis is an exciting and creative learning environment with a curriculum that goes beyond the traditional district arts curriculum. Students experience the arts in both theory and practice with arts specialists and through integrated arts projects in their academic classrooms. The CAPA arts curriculum is aligned with state and national standards.

The CAPA program includes visual arts, dance and movement, theatre and creative drama, orchestra, vocal and instrumental music, animation and media production and literary arts.

Ellis was planned and constructed as a model arts building. It contains a state-of-the-art theatre with a full stage and professional lighting and sound, two dance studios with hardwood floors and wall-length mirrors, visual arts rooms with kilns, two choral music rooms, plus band and orchestra rooms.

CAPA at Ellis helps children develop a positive self image and become more aware of their own creativity, while at the same time offering a wide range of future career choices. The skills the Arts teach — creative thinking, problem solving, responsible risk taking, teamwork and communication —are the tools needed by the workforce of tomorrow.

The specific arts areas at CAPA at Ellis are:

CREATIVE DRAMA/THEATER
Students are encouraged to write scripts, create characters, produce and perform plays. Technical theater classes offer students opportunities to construct and design sets, learn about lighting, costumes, props and make-up.

GENERAL MUSIC
The general music curriculum is aligned with the National and State Goals for Music Education. Students acquire skills and experiences in singing and movement education.
