 NCLB (No Child Left Behind)
This page indicates which RPS205 Title I schools (Including several Middle Schools which do not have transfer capabilities at this time and therefore qualify for SES services) have not met state and federal expectations for school achievement (refer to the Year 1 through 5+ levels below); a minimum of 70% of all students performing at or above grade level in reading and/or math, with attendance rates of 90%. The district's 2008-2009 report cards will be linked: LINK TO STATE OF ILLINOIS SCHOOL REPORT CARDS and will show how your child's school compares to other schools in our district and our state. These schools will be working to improve academic achievement during the 2008-09 school year as outlined in its School Improvement Plan (SIP). Those schools that have been placed on corrective action status have added a Reading Coach and have extended each school day by thirty instructional minutes. In addition, the State Educational Agency (SEA) has provided staff development and national speakers to help the District develop Power Standards. If you would like to review the plan or if you have questions about the plans to improve the school's academic standing, please contact the principal. Parent involvement can--and does--improve student success in school. Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child's educational process at home and at school.
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act became a federal law in January 2002. The purpose of this law is to provide every child in America an opportunity to succeed in school and to get the best education possible. NCLB provides parents/guardians the opportunity to request a transfer to a higher performing school if their child’s current school has been placed on improvement status for failing to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) on state testing.
