The No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Act became a federal law in January 2002. The purpose of this law is to provide every child in America an opportunity to succeed in school and to get the best education possible. NCLB provides parents/guardians the opportunity to request a transfer to a higher performing school if their child’s current school has been placed on improvement status for failing to make adequate yearly progress (AYP) on state testing.

NCLB (No Child Left Behind)
This page indicates which RPS205 Title I schools (Including several Middle Schools which do not have transfer capabilities at this time and therefore qualify for SES services) have not met state and federal expectations for school achievement (refer to the Year 1 through 5 levels below); a minimum of 55% of all students performing at or above grade level in reading and/or math, with attendance rates of 90%. The district's 2006-2007 report cards are also linked: LINK TO STATE OF ILLINOIS SCHOOL REPORT CARDS and show how your child's school compares to other schools in our district and our state. These schools will be working to improve academic achievement during the 2007-08 school year as outlined in its School Improvement Plan (SIP). Those schools that have been placed on corrective action status have added a Reading Coach and have extended each school day by thirty instructional minutes. In addition, the State Educational Agency (SEA) has provided staff development and national speakers to help the District develop Power Standards. If you would like to review the plan or if you have questions about the plans to improve the school's academic standing, please contact the principal. Parent involvement can--and does--improve student success in school. Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child's educational process at home and at school.

NCLB TRANSFERS to a higher-performing Rockford Public School can only be made at this time. Transfers are for the current 2007-2008 school year. As many transfers as possible will be made to those schools where seats are available. Bus transportation will be provided for students who live more than 1.5 miles from the transfer school. If not enough seats are available at requested schools or transporation is limited due to lack of funding, priority will be given to lowest-achieving, low-income students. Parents/guardians will have until September 21, 2007 to decide about transferring. You do not have to transfer unless you think it is right for your child. No transfers will be made until after the close of the transfer application period.

If you would like your child to continue at his/her school, you must mark the NO box on the linked form. If you wish to transfer your child to another school, review the list of schools that are in good academic standing (on the linked form), print out and complete the linked form, and then return it to the Rockford Public Schools Family Resource Center (978 Haskell Ave., Rockford, IL 61103) on or before September 21, 2007.

If you have questions about the NCLB Act or transfer process, NCLB staff is available at the Family Resource Center to assist you. Our NCLB Specialist is:
