CONKLIN ELEMENTARY |
It is sincerely believed that students dress has an effect on the learning environment. Our school implemented the uniform policy beginning at 2005-06 school year. Students need to stay in compliance with the uniform policy or it will result in disciplinary consequences.
Pants (Boys & Girls): Navy or Khaki pants, --or-- Shorts (Boys & Girls): Navy or Khaki shorts (no short shorts)** Belt required for all pants—belt loops=wearing a belt Shirt/blouse: A light blue, navy blue or white polo shirt; any white shirt/blouse with a collar. In cold weather, a long sleeve polo shirt or turtleneck shirt in light blue, navy blue or white Jumper: A uniform jumper in Navy Skirt/Skorts: A uniform skirt/skort in Navy or Khaki (no short skirts)** Socks: Knee socks or crew socks (any color); tights (any color) Sweaters/Cardigans (Boys & Girls): Light blue, navy blue or white pullover sweater or sweatshirt (NO HOODS/HOODIES!) Shoes: Dark dress or tennis shoes; no stack heels, sandals, or flip-flops allowed
**Students must be able to pass the “fingertip length” test. “Fingertip length” test is: when standing up straight, hands down at your sides, the length must be beyond the length of the child’s fingertips. All pants and/or shorts must be worn with the waistband at the waist level of the child.
ALL PARENTS: Please take special note of all items that are in bold print! These are either the new additions to our uniform policy OR part of the policy that has been in existence from the beginning and students have not always followed the policy. Sometimes it gets cold in the building in the winter; HOODED SWEATSHIRTS/HOODIES OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE WORN IN THE CLASSROOM. The boy’s uniform will consist of the following: • Solid white/navy polo shirt with a collar that buttons down the front. • Solid white/navy pullover or sweatshirt is allowed, however, hoods may not be worn on head. ABSOLUTELY NO writing or logos. • Navy (blue) or khaki (tan) dress pants or bermuda shorts. • A simple black or brown belt MUST BE WORN with NO name plates, logo, etc. • Shoes must have an enclosed foot. May be casual, dress or tennis shoes. • Shirts must be tucked in and pants must be worn on the waist.
The girl’s uniform will consist of the following: • Solid colored white/navy polo shirt with a collar that buttons down the front. • Solid white/navy pullovers or sweatshirts are allowed, however, hoods may not be worn on head. ABSOLUTELY NO writing or logos. • Navy (blue) or khaki (tan) dress pants or bermuda shorts. Navy (blue) or khaki (tan) skirts, jumpers, or skorts (skirt/short combination). Skorts and skirts must be knee length. • A simple brown or black belt MUST BE WORN with NO name plates, logo, etc. (If belt loops are present) • Shoes must have an enclosed foot. May be casual, dress or tennis shoes. • Socks, leggings, or tights of any color may be worn under skirts, skorts, or jumpers. • Shirts must be tucked in and pants must be worn on the waist. • Students may wear attire purchased through our school with the Ellis Arts Academy name, logo, or mascot. |

Purpose of Uniforms at Whitehead School The staff and parents of Whitehead School support a mandatory uniform policy to be followed by all Whitehead students. It is our belief that safety, modesty, simplicity, good taste, and cleanliness are important in promoting optimal learning and also in minimizing distractions.
SHIRTS • White, blue or gray polo shirt or blouse with collar • Long sleeve polo shirt, buttoned shirt with collar or turtleneck in white, blue or gray • All shirts must be tucked in at all times (2nd – 5th graders)
SWEATERS/SWEATSHIRTS/TURTLENECKS • Button or pullover sweater in naby blue, white or gray • Whitehead sweatshirts and plain sweatshirts and sweaters in school colors may be worn any day of the week with a uniform polo or plain turtleneck in school colors worn underneath in cooler weather
PANTS/SHORTS/SKIRTS/JUMPERS • Navy blue, gray or khaki pants, shorts, jumpers or skirts • Shorts, skirts, and jumpers must be long enough so that fingertips reach the bottom of the garment when the student is standing
STUDENTS MAY WEAR JEANS AND SPIRIT WEAR TEE SHIRTS (no team uniform shirt or jersey) ON THE LAST DAY OF THE WEEK.
FOOTWEAR • Choice of shoes as long as they enclose foot with no heels • No “heelys” or skate shoes • Choice of socks, tights, or leggings
OTHER • The Rockford Public Schools Dress Code also applies to all students. It is found in the Elementary District Handbook every year.
Uniform brand clothing can be purchased at several Rockford retail stores including, but not limited to, Burlington Coat Factory, JC Penney, and Target in addition to Goodwill, Salvation Army, and garage sales or on-line at www.frenchtoast.com, www.fadedglory.com, www.sears.com, www.target.com, or other uniform websites.
We will aggressively pursue implementation of this policy. This policy will be monitored on a daily basis. Parent/guardian support is necessary so that our program can operate as efficiently as possible. Thank you for adhering to our Whitehead School Uniform Policy. |
