| Employees who are eligible for pension benefits are enrolled in either the Illinois Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) or the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
Employees working in non-certified positions (paraprofessionals, bus drivers, secretaries, custodians, etc.), greater than 600 hours per year, must contribute to the IMRF. Members are required to contribute 4.5% of their gross pay to the IMRF. This contribution is tax deferred and remitted monthly. The District also contributes to IMRF – Currently the District contributes 5.94%, effective January 1, 2008, of gross pay to IMRF.
Employees working in certified positions (teachers, administrators, nurses, psychologists, etc.) must contribute to TRS. Currently, the Rockford School District calculates and remits that contribution which is 9.98% (TRS Pension and THIS) of creditable earnings.
