Principles of Emergency Care / Accidental Injuries
All district employees shall provide emergency care for students and / or employees due to injury or accident. Employees should utilize universal precautions in their care for students.
Illness or injury is a relatively common occurrence for a child or adolescent during, his or her attendance in school. This is not surprising since approximately half of the student’s days is spent in activities other than traditional “desk work”. Although true medical emergencies are rare in the schools, the potential for a life-threatening illness or injury is ever present in the school age population. Prevention of injury and early detection and intervention in illness are roles for school nurses.
