Vote America Website with links which inform students on the history of voting in America. Takes students back to the history of voting in ancient Greece all the way to present concerns with ballot issues and hanging chads!
C-SPAN Contains current political information on all aspects of the upcoming election.
IMAGES OF AMERICAN POLITICAL HISTORY Images of American Political History is a collection of over 500 public domain images offered through the Teaching Politics Techniques and Technologies web site (http://teachpol.tcnj.edu) to support the teaching of US political history by providing quick access to uncopyrighted images for inclusion in teaching materials. Images are provided in two sizes and in JPEG format for easy retrieval and use. Images in the collection span American history from the early colonial era to the present. Topics include elections and leaders; struggles for tolerance, equality and rights; wars and conflicts; and politically important places and buildings. Images include photographs, drawings, paintings, and maps.
NEW YORK TIMES LEARNING NETWORK This is an outstanding website with great lesson plans on such topics as: "We the People"--understanding the role of the superdelegates; "Free Speech"--reading closely by preparing a hypertext version of Barrack Obama's speech on Race; "Crossing Borders, Crossing Time"--exploring how trends in American Immigration have impacted American politics throughout history; "The Times They are A-Changing"--reflecting on shifting attitudes reflected in the 2008 Presidential race: "Si, Se Puede!"--investigating the growing influence of the Latino community in the US; "Party Like It's 1992 or '84 or '76 or '68!"--Exploring how political party platforms change over time; "Are We There Yet?"--exploring diversity in US politics; and many more!!
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS: ELECTIONS THE AMERICAN WAY The basics of American voting for Presidential elections including the requirements for the candidates, responsibility of voters, platforms and issues, and the polling process.
For Elementary Students:  

The Democracy Project Kids can send their parents E-cards encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election. They can also find out who is eligible to become President and what the duties and responsibilities are for the President. Links also explain how government affects a child's daily life and takes them to a "voting booth" where they can: 1) see what difference one vote can make, 2) find out about an election in a diffeent era, and 3) decide what issues are important to them and then cast their vote!
KIDS VOTING USA (K-12) A national leader in civic education, Kids Voting USA (KVUSA) gets students involved and ready to be educated, engaged citizens. Students learn about democracy through a combination of classroom activities, an authentic voting experience and family dialogue. High-quality instructional materials provide K-12 teachers with valuable civic learning tools to be used throughout the school year, every year. In addition to classroom activities about voting and electons, students also explore the right to vote, democracy and active citizenship.
ELECTION CONNECTION This website allows students to create candidates and learn the election process which culminates in a mock election.
