"The Bill of Rights in Action" Lesson Plan for 5th Grade Using a display of pictures showing daily life in the US, students are asked about the freedoms we take for granted every day. Following a study of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, students discuss the first 10 amendments and then for several days observe and take notes on ways in which the Bill of Rights affects their lives, both in school and at home. Disposable cameras are suggested for capturing those moments, then students work in groups to create posters illustrating each of the ten Bill of Rights in action. AMENDMENT POSTER GALLERY Making Meaning and Reinforcing Knowledge of the Amendments What would life be like without the 27 Amendments to the Constitution? Middle school students are asked to discuss their rights, voting age, and other topics in order to make connections between the history that produced the amendment and the amendment in action today. Through research and discussion, students will gain an understanding of the importance of the amendments and will apply that knowledge by creating posters that express a particular amendment. |
