Athletic Department Website Rockford’s four high schools offer a complete athletic program for both boys and girls. Currently, each high school offers 21 sports, with a total of 60 different levels of participation. Rockford’s middle schools offer 10 sports with varying combinations of levels of participation. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students enrolled in the magnet schools are also provided the opportunity to participate in many of the sports.
Co-curricular activities are an integral part of education. The co-curricular activities program is not only a way for students to have fun; it is also a valuable educational tool. They create school pride, teach life-long lessons and support the mission of District 205. The cost to fund the program is less than two percent of the total budget.
Participation by students in athletic activities extends into the summer with numerous camps and clinics in various sports provided by the coaching staff in the district. Students’ academic progress and attendance are monitored on a weekly basis while participating in athletics and other activities. District 205 co-curricular activities have received both local and statewide recognition.
Studies have shown that these activities have been instrumental in helping young people acquire new skills such as organization, planning, time management, discipline and motivation.
All secondary students participating in any athletic activities are required to have a current athletic physical* on file and are also required to pay a participation fee. Students are asked to check with their school’s athletic director for specific information regarding both matters.
*Physicals are only valid for one calendar year.
