ALL ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT (grades K-5 and theme schools Barbour Language Academy (K-8), Ellis Arts Academy (K-8), Montessori (K-6) are processed at the Student Assignment Center. Assignment to K-5 schools is based on parent choice and seat availability, and determined by a computerized lottery system. Assignment to theme schools is based on specific admittance requirements.

    MONTESSORI PRE-K ENROLLMENT
    Early enrollment for Montessori Pre-K is now closed. No more applications will be taken for Montessori Pre-K.

    KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT
    Enrollment for Kindergarten was re-opened April 12 and assignments are done on a first come first served basis. Enrollments must be done in person by a parent or guardian at the Student Assignment Center, 2000 Christina Street, Rockford, IL 61104.

    Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 for Kindergarten, and Montessori Pre-K is available for children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Assignments are made through a computerized lottery process, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Children who hear or speak a language other than English must accompany the parent for an on-site language assessment.

    REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR ALL ENROLLMENTS IN ROCKFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS:

  • Parent/guardian photo identification
  • Original or certified copy of a government-issued (not hospital) birth certificate
  • State-required "In Good Standing" student transfer information form (if coming from another Illinois public school)

    TWO PROOFS OF ADDRESS:

    ONE OF THESE:

  • Mortgage closing papers(homeowners)Intent to purchase will not be accepted
  • Signed and dated lease with cancelled bank statement or proof of last month's payment (must be within last 30 days)
  • "Letter of Residence" form--used when the person seeking to enroll a student is living with a District resident and the resident presents one of the proofs of address as listed below (form available at the Student Assignment Center)

    - OR -

    TWO OF THESE:

  • Most recent Property Tax Bill and proof of payment, e.g. canceled check or Form 1098 (homeowners)
  • Current DHS (Department of Human Services) medical card (must be within last 30 days)
  • Utility Bills (must be within last 30 days)
  • Mail received at current address (only ONE piece of mail will be accepted)

    UNACCEPTABLE PROOFS OF ADDRESS:
  • Drivers License
  • Voter's Registration

    The Student Records Office is inside the Student Assignment Center.

    NOTE: Students in all other grades who are currently enrolled in the District will automatically be assigned to the next grade at the school they currently attend. All students will be required to register at their school on August dates to be determined in 2010.

    STUDENT ASSIGNMENT CENTER
    We are an information center where parents can obtain materials about each school in District 205. Individual school profiles, brochures and school report cards are available to assist parents in making school choice selections.

    We answer questions and work with families to assign students to a school and provide them with bus transportation information. In addition, they can channel families to No Child Left Behind (NCLB) programs: CLICK FOR LINK. Bilingual (Spanish) staff and materials are available to assist limited English proficient families.

    COMMUNITY OUTREACH
    The Student Assignment Center serves as an informational network and works in collaboration with the community and social services agencies. This service offers families a "one-stop" approach to gathering information about school options and basic community services that families may require.

    STUDENT RECORDS
    Student records may be obtained at the Student Assignment Center for any individual who no long attends a Rockford Public School. NOTE: if your child is still enrolled in RPS205 schools, you must contact your child's assigned school directly for records/information.
