Requesting Support
Web Support
Many issues can now be handled remotely. Teachers may dial 966-3112.

Teachers may also create a service request at the link above.

IT staff in the building have been directed not to respond to verbal requests when they are in a building. They will ask you to e-mail support@rps205.com. If they have time available in their schedule they will then attempt to resolve your issue. The number of electronic work orders addressed by an IT staff member is an indication of their efficiency. Additionally, the number of open work requests is an indication of the need for additional IT staff. Also, the number of open work orders at a building indicates the need for a tech to come out. If you wait until a tech is in the building, you are simply delaying the scheduling of a staff member to come to your building.
E-mail Support

Additionally, they may e-mail the request to support@rps205.com. Always state the school, room, and identify the location of the computer if there is more than one in the room.
Installing Hardware/Software –
The IT department will only install hardware/software that has been purchased on a district purchase order. This is done to ensure that the district is compliant in software licensing.
Donated Computers
Form to request computers from CFS (read statement below).
The district does support computers donated from computers for schools as long as they meet district hardware minimum specs. HOWEVER, before requesting computers from Computers for Schools you must have a funding source identified to cover the $71.71 licensing fee per computer. DO NOT pay any optional fee for Windows 2000 Professional to Computers for Schools. That product will be installed by the district through a program from Microsoft. This will cover the virus software, LanDesk, Exchange and Server licenses, and MS Office licenses. This is REQUIRED software. Should a building be considering a lab of donated computers, please consider contacting Facilities to review the electrical and connectivity issues that may arise. Use the form from the link above when requesting computers from CFS. This form is faxed directly to CFS and any inquiries as to this request should be directed to them. All donated computers must meet minimum specs below:

Pentium PIII running at 700 mhz or above
  • 6 gigabyte hard drive (minimum)
  • 128 mb RAM (minimum) always striving for 256 mb RAM
  • CD-ROM drive
  • Floppy drive
  • Video Card
  • Sound card
  • Network Card

  • Personal Computers - Teachers personal desktop computers, printers, networking equipment (including wireless access points) may not be brought to school (They will be removed). Laptops can be brought to the building, but not all network resources will be available (i.e. printers, shared drives).
    E-mail
District e-mail is available at school and from any Computer outside the district with an Internet connection (turn off pop-up blockers). Do not use your e-mail to send/receive copyrighted attachments, offensive or inappropriate graphics or messages. Consider student confidentiality when writing e-mails. Specific students should not be named. Call 966-3112 and press the number 1 when prompted with questions regarding login names and passwords.

  • It is not possible to access non-district e-mail from within the district.
  • The district cannot link your e-mail to a personal mobile device.
  • SPAM
    Spam Filter
The district uses a Barracuda Spam Firewall (see link above. You will be notified of e-mail in your Spam folder. The message contains the subject “Spam Quarantine Summary”. Click on the link to view the spam. You may delete, deliver, or white list e-mail. We receive ~100,000 e-mails per day. The filter is currently blocking over 90% of it as Spam. The filter will never block all offensive messages. Simply delete offensive messages. The Spam Quarantine Folder can be reached by clicking on the most recent notification in your e-mail, but is only accessible from within the District.

HTTPS sites are blocked as this type of address is often used by proxy servers to circumvent the filter. Unfortunately, sites that rely on credit cards, banking information, and membership login are also blocked. IT will only unblock https sites that are directly related to the classroom.
    Filter
    E-mail support at support@rps205.com
The district (by law) utilizes a service to filter Internet content. You will find that this is not 100% effective. If you find a student on a site that you feel is inappropriate, you may e-mail the link to support@rps205.com. You will not have access to your AOL, hotmail, Insight, etc. mail in the district. This is done to restrict students from accessing e-mail from school. There is no way to discriminate between students and staff, thus E-mail sites to other than the RPS e-mail are blocked. Should you need access to a blocked site that supports your curriculum, you may e-mail the link to support@rps205.com or use the feedback form available from the block message in the filter. Not all requests may be honored. This is due to a site of educational value having the same hosting service as that of an inappropriate site.
    Teacher Websites
    E-mail supprot at support@rps205.com
Schools have been asked to remove links from the school site to personal teacher websites that are NOT housed by the district.
Links from schools sites to teacher sites created with the District Web Page Tool (Novus) or any teacher sites already housed at the schools.rps205.com CAN continue.

Teachers wishing to have a site within our system should e-mail support@rps205.com to obtain a user name and password. Self-guided training resources exist. Additionally, training sessions will be held throughout the year.

The district does recognize that many teachers have developed excellent sites hosted by providers such as TeacherWeb.com. However, the request to remove the links is related to legal issues. Teachers may continue to use these sites, but the district will not link to them.
    Purchasing DELL computers for home
    Dell EPP (Employee Purchase Plan
Purchasing DELL computers for home – Dell offers a program titled DELL EPP (Employee Purchase Program). Teachers may access the site by clicking the Dell Offer link above or in the left navigation bar of this site. The district IT department does not support the hardware, nor can they make suggestions. Note the member number on the flyer before clicking the picture. Note that discounts are across the line. You may products other than the featured ones through links along the top. The EPP discount is taken in the step before checkout.
MS Office WAH (Work at Home Offer)
MS Office WAH (Work at Home Offer) link
Microsoft offers a program where educators may install the same version of Office at home as they have access to at school. Click MS Office WAH Offer in the left navigation bar of this site. The district IT department does not support installation of the software. Links on the page will help the user determine if their computer meets the specifications for office.
    GradeQuick
    GradeQuick Link
The district has is available for all school buildings for GradeQuick 7 (Windows only not MAC). Teachers may request installation of the software by contacting support. Additionally, they may request a disk to install it at home. Directions for changing the school name from a specific building (along with links to additional resources) can be found at the following link. Teachers in more than one building may find this convenient. Do Not (even if it is available as an option) install Site Manager! Vista OS machines may have issues with GradeQuick. See suggestions and other information at http://webs.rps205.com/curriculum/newteachers/gradequick.html>

    Saving Your Work
    BACKUP to multiple locations
Secondary teachers should have access to their own network share { Usually labeled H: }. If you change buildings and your network drive no longer functions, Email support@rps205.com include the name of your old building and the name of your new building.
PreK and Elementary teachers should have access to a shared drive in their building. Elementary teachers could create a folder in this drive to store their information. Note that this is not a private folder and other staff in the building could view the documents. Also, other staff members could inadvertently delete the folders. While network drives are more secure storage areas than the local c: drive, teachers should strongly consider saving work in multiple locations i.e. network drive, flash drive, etc. Additionally, staff should consider printing hard copies of vital information. You may request a private network share should you wish by e-mailing support@rps205.com remember to include your building name.
A common error is to unplug a flash drive before closing the file that you are storing on it. Close the file, then remove the drive.
Restated, catastrophes do occur. Staff should consider backing up their important files.

  • Log Off when the computer is not attended.
  • If you leave your computer unattended, students could send e-mails in your name and view or delete files. Always logout when not using your computer
  • U3 Flash Drives
IT does not support flash drives with U3 technology. This type of flash drive is designed to use to drive letters (usually E and F). This interferes with the district mapping of the public drive and the data on f: is not accessible. The U3 technology can be removed if you already have this type of drive. Use your home computer and back everything up, then go to the U3 Launchpad and, under Settings, select U3 Launchpad settings and click Uninstall. This will completely remove the U3 Launchpad from the drive.
