Award Winning Books
The following sites are recommended for children from preschool through age 18, their parents, teachers, and other caregivers. Recommendations apply only to sites listed, not to any sites that may be linked from these sites.

Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award
Information about the Illinois Rebecca Caudill Award designed for students in 4 - 8 grades, current nominations and past winners.

Caldecott Medal Home Page
Read about the award books and their illustrators in the Official site. This medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Newbery Medal Home Page
Read about the best books and their authors in their official site. The award is given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Coretta Scott King Awards
Presented annually to an African American author and an African American illustrator for an outstandingly inspirational and educational contribution published during the previous year.

Pura Belpre Award
The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

Michael L. Printz Award
The Michael L. Printz Award is an award for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature. It is named for a Topeka, Kansas school librarian who was a long-time active member of the Young Adult Library Services Association. The award is sponsored by Booklist, a publication of the American Library Association.

Carnegie Medal Page
Given by the Library Association, Youth Libraries Group, in England, this award was established in 1937. Presented annually to an outstanding book published in the United Kingdom. This site lists award winners.

Scott O'Dell Award
In 1982, Scott O'Dell established The Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction.

Rpbert F. Sibert Award
The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award, established by the Association for Library Service to Children in 2001, is awarded annually to the author of the most distinguished informational book published in English during the preceding year. The award is named in honor of Robert F. Sibert, the long-time President of Bound to Stay Bound Books, Inc. of Jacksonville, Illinois, and is sponsored by the company. ALSC administers the award.

Monarch Award
Information about the Monarch Award designed to encourage Illinois children to read critically and to become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators. This award is named for the Monarch Butterfly and symbolizes the growth, change and freedom that characterize the emergent reader. The Monarch Award is given annually to an author and/or illustrator of a book voted as their favorite by participating K-3 children in Illinois.
