Bamford-Lahey Children's Foundation

SCOPE: The Bamford-Lahey Children's Foundation supports projects which have broad implications for the learning and use of spoken language in children with developmental language disorders. Projects for children with cognitive, emotional, attention-deficit, motor or sensory disorders will not be considered unless the project has implications for language learning among children who do not have such problems, officials say. The same criterion applies to projects related to typical or bilingual language development.

DEADLINE: Rolling

FUNDS: The Foundation makes one or two, $20,000 grants each year through organizations such as public schools, universities, and hospitals.

Green Light Awards

SCOPE: The Green Light Awards program, sponsored by VSA arts and Volkswagen of American, Inc., invites young artists who have a physical, cognitive, or mental disability to enter representational and abstract artwork into the competition.

ELIGIBILITY: U.S. artists, ages 16-25, who have a disability. Previous recipients are not eligible.

DEADLINE: July 11.

FUNDS: One grand prize of $20,000; one first prize award of $10,000; one second prize award of $6,000; and 12 Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each.

AREAS: Artowrk should: not exceed 60 inches in any direction; be original; and completed in the last three years. Eligible media include: paintings and drawings (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, or charcoal); fine art prints (lithographs, etching, intaglio, or wood cuts; photography, computer-generated prints and two-dimentional mixed media; sculpture (not to exceed 24 inches in any direction); and time-based media (video, film, etc.). Original artwork should not be sent; each artist must submit in digital format.

CCBD Foundation Practitioner Support Program

SCOPE: The Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders Foundation provides grants to professionals who apply their knowledge and skills to improve the academic, social, emotional and community outcomes for children and youth with behavioral disorders.

ELIGIBILITY: Educators who are actively working within schools: teachers, instructional assistants, or administrators who work with children or youth with behavioral disorders.

AREAS: Proposals are rated on the following; the program meets documented need; the plan is complete and reasonable; the practitioner is qualified; there is document support for project; the budget is appropriate; and the plan reasonable.

DEADLINE: Rolling; applications are reviewed in July and January each year.

FUNDS: Grants up to $500.
