Social Work Department

The Social Work Department of the Rockford Public Schools offers a number of valuable services to students and staff. Below, is a handy reference listing our different programs, staff involved, and how you can get in contact with specific staff members and their departments.
School Social Workers (966-5251)
School Social Workers provide unique services to students, families and communities in order to help students attain maximum benefits from the school program. Students are the primary focus of the educational process and are viewed by the social worker in related to the family, the school, the neighborhood and the larger community. Social workers contribute knowledge of and concern for the wide range of social, emotional, cultural, and economic differences among children, families and communities.   • Home School Counselors (966-5253)

    Home School counselors serve the elementary and middle schools. Staff investigates unaccounted for student chronic absences and work with families in a supportive role to assist them in improving their children's attendance. This could include consultation, agency referral or linking them to school services. Your Home School counselors are:

  • Rockford Attendance Initiative (966-5251)

    The Rockford Attendance Initiative (RAI) program addresses truancy and potential dropouts through early intervention at the elementary level. Its main goals are to increase attendance and to involve the at-risk student in the learning process. RAI workers are:

  • child Services to Homeless Children and Youth
    This grant-funded program provides emergency assistance and tutoring to approximately 600 homeless students in the district. Funds from the grant are used to provide transportation, clothing and tutoring to assure homeless students have access to a quality education.

    21st Century Community Learning Center Programs
    The 21st Century Community Learning Center Program (ASAP)provides enrichment programs at 17 District school sites.
