Welcome to the Clifford P. Carlson School Website.
Carlson Elementary School was built in 1968 and named after the presiding
school board president. Carlson School is set up in an
open pod, family style learning environment which
integrates students with special needs including severe
and profound. Our prime focus is on the whole child’s
academic and social needs within an integrated thematic
curriculum driven by Rockford Public Schools and Illinois
Learning Standards. Teachers use a balanced literacy
approach in reading, including guided reading and writing
within literacy based centers. Teachers utilize the
Accelerated Reader program, and school wide incentives are
implemented to maximize student reading. 6 Trait
Writing, Everyday Math, Data Driven Instruction, and the
use of technology are integrated into the curricula to
enhance instruction.
Carlson also houses two Early Childhood classrooms. Each classroom will have
students from 7:50 to 10:45 and from 11:45 to 2:00. For more information
