| Conklin Elementary School (Grades K-5) has a safe, fun, caring, responsive building climate where staff listen and are focused on children. Teachers are highly committed to efficiently delivering instruction through multiple and varied strategies. Primary and intermediate staffs work collaboratively at early prevention and intervention strategies to improve and support academic progress.
A spacious park adjoins Conklin School property with a baseball diamond and soccer field. The school building and surrounding property is located away from traffic areas. The single level building floor plan is designed with wide hallways and a ramped entrance/exit.
Conklin School utilizes the latest research-based reading program, as well as the district Everyday Math program. Our state-of-art portable wireless laptop lab is the first of its kind in an elementary school in the Rockford Public Schools. Our library is updated every year and helps contribute to the reinforcement of math, reading, and writing skills.
A hard-working, dedicated staff complements a dynamic building administrator. An instructional support services team is available to support staff, students, and parents to ensure academic success.
UNIQUE PROGRAMS
• Positive student involvement is reinforced through Student of the Month, Positive Behavioral Incentives, Awards Assemblies, Quarterly Attendance Awards and Honor Roll.
• All students in grades K-5 receive a minimum of 90 minutes of computer time on our portable wireless laptop lab.
• Special education services, Title I services, 100 Days Celebration, Peer Tutoring, Reading Buddies.
OUR ADVANTAGES
• 21st Century Community Learning Center: our after school program is from 2:00-5:00 p.m. The lead agency for our program is the YMCA. Students receive homework help and tutoring in reading and math.
• All day kindergarten as well as half-day kindergarten option—afternoons only.
• After school activities including the after school program mentioned above are: monthly Skate Nights, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, REBA (Rockford Elementary Basketball Association), Cheerleading.
ANNUAL EVENTS
• Field trips: Challenger Learning Center (gr. 5 only), Fun Fair, Monster Mash, 50s Sock Hop, Honor Roll Banquet (gr. 4 & 5 only), 5th Grade Recognition Celebration.
• Other classroom field trips may include: visiting a zoo, Pecatonica Environmental Center, Burpee Museum, Rockford Theatre, Midway Village, Discovery Center.
