Rockford Early Childhood Mission Statement

The mission of the Rockford Early Childhood Program is to empower all young children to become effective, enthusiastic, and socially competent learners by creating a bond among young children, their families, the school & the community.

Both half-day and full day EC/prekindergarten programming provides "hands-on" active learning opportunities through large group, small group and leaming center activities. The Rockford Early Childhood Program implements the High Scope Curriculum developed by the High Scope Educational Research Foundation, nationally recognized for its work in research in early childhood education for more than thirty years. One exception is the Montessori Magnet which implements its unique and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Fairview Early Childhood Center is a comprehensive site serving children and their families 0-5. Parent-child interaction sessions as well as center-based classrooms serving the 3-5 population are available. ESL multi-cultural model as well as bilingual Spanish classrooms for limited English proficient children is represented. Screening /Placement, Transportation and special services Diagnostic Center for the entire Early Childhood Program is housed at Fairview. In addition to the department's curriculum, a special focus implementing the Reggio Emilia approach with emphasis on the arts and music from the Reggio Emilia Child Care Centers in Italy has been adopted. Roosevelt Community Education offers the families of Early Childhood students the opportunity for adult education, ESL programming for adults as well as preschool education and childcare services at one location.
