In the Area of Language, does your child:

____listen closely enough to a story to be able to answer
questions about it

____repeat a story just hear, keeping the correct sequence of events

____communicate well with family, friends or strangers

____have speech that can be understood 90% of the time

____have a vocabulary of 6,000 words

____speak with grammar very much like an adult’s


In the Area of Reading Readiness, does your child:

____tell a story with a beginning, middle and end

____name printed letters

____say the sound most single letters make

____experiment with language; try out new words, make up words
and tell jokes


In the Area of Writing, does your child:

____print letters and numbers by copying a model

____enjoy writing for many purposes: signs, notes, lists, stories

____begin to use functional spelling “kt” might indicate the words “cat”


In the Area of Thinking & Problem Solving, does your child:

____understand less and pick out which of two groups have less

____understand same quantity & match two groups with the same
number of objects

____understand opposites

____copy a pattern (red, blue, red, blue)

____complete an 18-36 piece puzzle

____count 20 items out loud

____try different actions to solve a problem

____continue a task until he thinks it is done
