| Froberg School dedicates $30K playground in 2006 |

| | 2006 | State Sen. Dave Syverson and Rockford Ald. Lenny Jacobson joined faculty and students at Froberg Elementary School for a ribbon-cutting at the school’s new playground Friday afternoon.
Syverson, who contributed $3,000 – the largest cash donation – toward the volunteer project, received a poster-size thank you card signed by more than 300 students, then led them on a ceremonial stroll on the playground’s quarter-mile walking path. More than 30 parents helped rebuild and landscape the play area with a new slide and other equipment.
Businesses donating toward the project include Benson Stone Co., Bob’s Hardware, T.R. Excavating, Fritchen’s nursery and Hilander grocery stores.
As a special treat, 1st-grader Brooke Irlacher – who former principal Steve Mahan referred to as “our own Danica Patrick” – took her championship go-cart for a lap on the walking path. The former principal explained that Froberg’s motivational theme for 2006-2007 is “Destination Education: Beep. Beep! We’re on our way!”
Froberg, 4555 20th Street, serves students in pre-kindergarten through second grades.
