Kishwaukee School Characteristics
|
The mission of Kishwaukee School is to educate, motivate and guide each student by developing his or her fullest potential to: • Be lifelong learners, • Be contributing citizens, and • Make responsible choices which enhance their lives, by providing a safe and nurturing environment with innovative, multicultural teaching techniques that respond to individual’s learning styles and needs while working in partnership with our diverse school community.
Kishwaukee places a special emphasis on reading, language arts, and math instruction. Along with the 2 hour reading/language arts and 60-minute math blocks, the students receive an additional 30 minutes of math instruction daily. The reading program currently used at Kishwaukee School is the Harcourt Series. Kishwaukee has adopted the Core Knowledge school reform model implemented in the fall of 2003. This program focuses on enriching background knowledge. The Accelerated Reader program provides students in grades K-5 with an opportunity for a more engaging reading experience.
The computer lab is used as an opportunity to increase students' learning in the areas of reading/language arts, math, social studies, and the use of the Internet.
Community partnerships with Amcore Bank and Subway Sandwich Company provide support for the students at Kishwaukee School. Community involvement includes: Zion Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, EPIC 61104 Initiative Project, Rockford Products and Junior Achievement.
