SOCK MONKEYS-A TRADITION!
anniversary party
Barbara Gerry, the great-granddaughter of John Nelson attended the party!
John Nelson invented the Nelson Knitting Machine in the 1880's. The event popularized the sewing of the Sock Monkey.

Barb Gerry stands in the Nelson Library next to the large statue of the Sock Monkey. The monkey is the creation of Mrs. Painter, the Nelson School art teacher. Mrs. Garry sponsored the project through Midway Village.
The largest "actual" sock monkey is "Nelson". He travels with the Midway Village interpreters.
WE LOST THE COTTONWOOD TREE.
Barb Gerry
Tribute to the Cottonwood.
A slab was saved from the tree and is currently on display at Nelson School.

We lost the Cottonwood tree this summer. Most of the tree had become a hazard to the children because of the dead branches and limbs.
We also lost the oldest Nelson School student that we knew, Chester Anderson. He was 94 and had gone to first grade at Nelson School.
FORMER STUDENTS RELIVE MEMORIES!
anniversary party
Former students gathered in the halls and reminised.
Retracing steps and telling stories!

Former students checked out every floor of Nelson School looking for something familiar and something new. The best part was the stories and adventures shared by the "remember when" groups.
RETIRED TEACHERS RETURN TO NELSON!
returning teachers
Retired Nelson Teachers!
Many retired teachers retired to celebrate with the Nelson Community.

The Celebration created an opportunity for many people to reunite with each other. Many teachers had the opportunity to visit with students from the past years. Most students were able to recognize their "old" teachers--imagine that!
REFRESHMENTS ARE SERVED!
After touring the building, the guests were invited to share refreshments with the staff..

What a better place to serve refreshments to guests than the Faculty Lounge.

You will notice in this picture that the two young ladies holding the sign are the 1st.-1908 Beauty Pageant Queens. They were here through the courtesy of the "Living Museum" Foundation!
