My Life at Washington I became the Assistant Principal at Washington Gifted Academy when it opened in August, 2008. That inaugural year was exciting and very much a personal challenge. My goal is to continue to support the learning environment, teachers, students and families at Washington on their quest for excellence in education.
My Life at Home I am married and have three children. My husband, Chuck, works for SupplyCore here in Rockford and serves as Washington's Chess Coach. My three children, Rachel, Kelsey and Zack attended the Gifted Program from First Grade through Twelfth Grade. They have all now graduated from college and are pursuing careers across the country and the globe. So, it's just Chuck and I and our two cats at home!
My Life as a Teacher I started my career as a teacher of students with visual impairments. I worked with students in Rockford as well as throughout northern Illinois as an itinerant teacher. After observing my own children's experiences in the Gifted Program, I knew I could find a home there. I started teaching First Grade and remained there for 14 years before becoming Washington's Assistant Principal.
My Life as a Student * Leadership Academy - Rockford District #205 & Northern Illinois University, 2000 * M.A., Administration & Supervision - Concordia University, 1997 * Gifted 1-4, six hours - Rockford College, 1994 * B.S., Education - Northern Illinois University, 1980
