West Middle School is operating with a different organizational structure called site-based governance that will impact all areas of the functioning of the school. This includes:
- the development of the School Improvement Plan (achievement, attendance, discipline, school climate)
- placing the decision-making closer to the classroom level
- creating a school that responds to parents' and students' needs
- improving the school's work environment
- helping redefine the role central office plays in supporting West's effort to achieve the above goals.
Staff that supports the implementation of site-based governance will enhance this process. As a result, staff that apply for and are successfully placed at West should be committed to educate themselves about site-based and plan to positively participate to achieve its implementation.
School Hours for Staff: 8:20 - 3:30
Population of School: @950 students divided into two or three teams per grade level and hosts the district's centralized gifted program at middle school. In addition to resource services for each team, we have self-contained classrooms of children identified with special needs who, through inclusion, may be in encore or specific core classes.
Major focus: West is dedicated to helping all children achieve as evidenced in the pledge that all staff and students are expected to know: We are the West Family committed to achievement with mutual dignity and respect.
