What is it? Why West? Site-Based Governance is a process to give our school more authority/power and support to help West implement and further refine our School Improvement Plan. As parents, students, community and staff, we will work together to ensure West students achieve. West is one of five schools in the Rockford School District chosen to participate in this initiative.
We begin the fourth year of Site-Based Governance in the fall of 2006. Our initial step was to elect five certified staff members who coordinated the activities used to write a charter. With the spring 2006 election of certified staff, the current Site Leadership Team (SLT is Kathleen Miller, Rita Laskonis, Tim Aures, Giovanni Van, and Matt Fields. Dr. Cyrus Oates is the parent representative from the Parents for Gifted Education and the PTO is working to identify parents from the traditional program. Additionally, we are identifying non-certified staff and community people to join the SLT.
