Book Cart We (Adele and Russ Milano) are operating the Book Cart again this year. Russ is usually at Ellis to sell books on Friday from about 10:30am to about 12:30 pm.
The concept is simple, we buy used children’s books at thrift stores, Friends of Library sales from Madison to Chicago and a few garage sales and sell them to the K thru 5th grade students at Ellis for $ .25 each. Middle school is welcome to make special arrangements or send selected students down to the 3-5 shared space from 11:45 am to 12:15pm.
There is a limit of 4 books per student per week.
Russ will come to the classroom door and get the teacher’s attention holding a book up. If the teacher wishes to participate that day she/he will ask students if they have money and want to buy books. The teacher may limit opportunity and time.
Book tokens will continue to be available for staff for $ .25 to use as student rewards.
Staff purchases off the book carts will be $ .50, the "full price".
Lastly, this is not a profit making venture but our mission to assist the students and staff of Ellis. The prices have remained the same for 5 years and have never covered the cost of the books much less gas, tolls, meals and time.
Staff and Parents can help by encouraging your students to take advantage of this opportunity to own books and read what interests them. |
