Rested and Revitalized!!!

January 2010 Welcome back; I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is ready to roll up their sleeves as we get into the nitty-gritty of our year. We've got lots of readin', writin', and 'rithmetic to do between now and the March ISAT tests.
Geometry is our current unit of study in math, which includes properties of lines, angles, polygons, circles and solids, as well as graphing on the cartesian grid. Our next journey will be into fractions and algebra.
In reading we'll be sharing historical fiction in literature circles while working on extended response and continued literary analysis using a response techniques called COOPS notes. We'll also continue to work on various aspects of expository/persuasive writing.
In science our Forces and Motion unit has lots of hands-on labs we'll be doing that will integrate graphing skills. We'll also be learning about the early colonies and the difficulties faced by those that led the way to America as settlers. Students will participate in several different simulations using a variety of primary and secondary sources during this social studies unit.
Please keep checking your child's assignment notebook daily and ask to see the work even if they say they finished it at school; we want to keep students focused and motivated to do their best, which has a better chance of happening if they have a rapt and demanding audience. Bravo, parents - keep those expectations high! |
